Background Information

Benjamin Franklin was born in 1706 in Boston. From his teenage years until he was forty two Franklin was a printer, and he also wrote stories on politics and daily life under the pen name "Silence Dogood". Which was quite obviously a fake name. He also published Poor Richard's Almanack from 1732 to 1757, which was very popular and contained advice, observations, and information. He is also known for his work in Politics, including The Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution, and negotiating a peace treaty with England. These documents are the majority of the reason he is so admired in American society. Another reason he is so well known is his appearance on the one hundred dollar bill.

This writing politician also had a scientific background. When he retired from his printing job at the age of 42 he devoted himself to science, he invented the lightning rod, bifocals, a new stove, worked with electricity, and contributed to our understanding of earthquakes and ocean currents (Prentice Hall, 140). Having lived a full and prosperous life Benjamin Franklin died in the year 1790 at the age of 84.
